Whether individuals are looking for an exciting new hobby to take up or wish to be more inventive with their nail design designs, DIY nail stamping has definitely been making a comeback. If you've always wanted to do some nail art work of your own, or even just learn how to make some yourself, then this article is for you.

The basic idea behind DIY nail stamping is to create a design using regular nail polish and then stamp it on to a piece of metal, such as a stainless steel nail. Before you start, make sure that you're wearing rubber gloves, sunglasses and protective eye wear so that you can clean your hands properly. You should also have some practice material on hand, such as regular nail polish strips and small sponge. Once you feel comfortable, you can start to experiment.

The first thing you need to do when you learn how to do DIY nail stamping, is to choose a stencil. There are two types of stencils which are very popular - the round and square. A rounded stencil is easier to handle and to use and can create a more polished look. For a square design, you will need to purchase some small stainless steel nail polish strips. The strips can then be wrapped around a couple of finger nails and held on to a finger nail by a tape.

Once you've applied the nail polish, you can begin your DIY nail stamping adventure. You should start in the center of your nail. With a large safety pin, begin to apply your nail polish in gentle circular motions. As you work your way out, give the nail polish a chance to dry. If you find that it's drying too quickly, stop and wait for it to become pliable again. If you find that you have a hard time with this process, you can purchase some additional nail polish for the second attempt.

Next, you will need to purchase your own nail stamping plate. There are several different types to choose from. The cheapest ones are made from acetate sheets. The acetate sheets can come unglued or glued together. They are usually thin and wide enough for one nail to slide along.

Your next step is to cut your stencil. This is done by simply cutting a straight line about two to three inches outside the area that you will be using for the design. Once this is done, peel back the protective sheet on your nail stamping plate. Your design should already be on there. Apply your own acrylic paint and/or glitter to make your design pop!
